This is a great book, not only as a beautiful example of the craft of writing, but also as a lovely and thoughtful piece of inspiring content. The story begins when an uninvited guest appears at a baptismal party. The birth of Frannie Keating, second daughter of Beverly and Fix Keating, is being celebrated. Most of the guests are a police officer and his wife. But then Bart Cousins, a lawyer from the prosecutor’s office, shows up. He is not invited and only knows how to make a few corrections. He heard about the party from one of the guests and decided to attend. It is a fateful decision that will ultimately change the lives of his 10 people: two families, six children, and two couples. On a sunny Sunday afternoon in Southern California, Bart Cousins meets Beverly Keating and is instantly attracted to her. He kissed her before her day was over, and her situation would never be the same again. Eventually, the two marriages fail. Bart marries Beverly and moves to Virginia with Beverly’s two daughters. Burt’s four children remain in California with her mother, despite her efforts to convince them that they should also move to Virginia.
