The Witches of Willow Hall takes place in the 1800s, after the Salem witch trials. When Lydia Montrose’s family is disgraced, they are required to flee Boston, and it’s her sister’s fault. However, she is connected to the woman in The Scarlet Letter who thinks of herself as being recognized just as Hester Prynne defiled her victims. When the scandal is discovered, the Montrose family and their three daughters, Catherine, Lydia, and Emmeline, flee Boston to their new home, Willow Hall. The park looks sleepy and quiet.

All the daughters will be forever changed by the imprint, but none other than Lydia. If she needs to protect her loved ones, she must sketch out her supremacy that she never knew she was attached to. In that state, she discovers new elements of herself. It’s hard to believe that her childhood left her in obscurity, something that terrifies her. In fact, what annoyed me the most while reading was Lydia and her stubborn density. I’m a big fan of character development, and in addition to Lydia and her sister, I felt that John Barrett was also a character who had some progress. Everyone else looked motionless and thin in comparison. The Witches of Willow Hall is a fast-paced, engaging read for those who enjoy gothic and supernatural historical fiction with a predictable twist.
